Family: Acanthaceae Region: India, Sri Lanka
CareUnlike most other Hygrophila sp., Hygrophila balsamica is not very well suited to tanks that are not high light and CO2 injected. Given that and a good level of nutrients, it is a very fast grower and can get rather large.
***Special note***
In emersed form this plant contains a substance that is very toxic and deadly to fish and invertebrates. For this reason emersed growth should never be placed directly into a tank with livestock. Either plant in an empty tank, or soak for several days before introduction.
